"Finding a context into which most modern seventh-grade students can place this story can be difficult. Boys of this age tend to dismiss "romances" or "romantic" stories. Girls of this age are attracted to books such as The Babysitter's Club series and Young Adult genre novels that occasionally have romantic elements; therefore, they are not as quick, in general, to dismiss such stories.
