The paper reveals that on August 13, 2008, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger accounted the settlement of a landmark legal case about the equality of quality in California's public school system. The paper discusses how the settlement required all of California's public schools to provide, at a minimum, the basic necessities of educational opportunity: textbooks, safe schools and qualified teachers. In addition, the paper relates that the settlement promised students, parents and the community new information and resources to monitor this progress. The paper explains that this settlement was the result of a lawsuit filed to fight for the fundamental right to an education that included the basic tools necessary for that education: "Williams v. State of California."
