Description:

This paper explores the characteristics of western civilization and discusses the freedom of religion and the institution of democracy. The writer of this paper contends that one thing he does not like about western civilization is the attitude that it is far more superior than any other system.

From the Paper:

"There are many characteristics of western civilization that we take for granted but they are indeed unique to this part of the world. One of those characteristics is the adoption of human centered religions(Characteristics of Western Civilization http://www.acs.ohio-state.edu/history/isthmia/teg/hist111/111lec29.htm). We are a religious nation and culture however we adopt many faiths that are centered on human satisfaction and control.. In the eastern cultures and civilizations we find a more uniform approach to the topic of religion. The western world believes that people should have a right to choose what faith they are going to follow and in fact if they want to make up their own as they go that is perfectly acceptable also.
"The western world is more inclined to have a mixed government. We in the western culture have democracy and we are proud to hold it up as a shining example of how diversified opinions can indeed work in the process of government. We in the states have democratic and republican parties. However there are also several smaller parties here and if we wish to start still others we are free to do so (Characteristics of Western Civilization http://www.acs.ohio-state.edu/history/isthmia/teg/hist111/111lec29.htm)."
