From the Paper:
"The practice of promoting adult learning programs in an upper- level academic environment is difficult to orchestrate due to the number of variables that are found within students and the academic environment alike. Creating a program that addresses the needs of all adult learners within a given program is therefore extremely challenging for adult educators, who find themselves having to confront the widely varied directives issued by adult learners and their respective academic institutions. In addition, the past decade had demonstrated a marked transition from "traditional" structured and course- based learning to "nontraditional" programs that take into account aspects of adult life such as diurnal commitments and pre- existing classwork. (Jonas: 2001)"Yet despite these inherent challenges, the mission of adult education is clear: Adult education is designed to create a program which appeals to the enrichment of life through developing skills or enhancing education via the learning process. In order to achieve this mission statement, it is first necessary to target the following elements of adult education."
