Description:
The aim of this paper is to provide management understanding of the many materials and technical aspects of hotel development, construction, renovation, remodeling, modernization, and reconstruction. The study also intends to facilitate hospitality professional's liaison with construction industry professionals. The paper focuses on two Dubai hotels as examples, and discusses the Probable Maximum Loss (PML) analysis, which quantifies the percentage of the property that will be lost in a major earthquake. The paper concludes that proper planning and preparation with effective and efficient implementation of sound facilities management procedures will enable the hotel's owner or operator to render effective management to optimize the stay of the guest. This paper contains illustrative figures.
