"Today we live in a global world where multi national and trans national corporations are overriding the national cultures to create a world, which is diversified in its population. Borders are disappearing and more of the world is being developed than ever before. Amidst this development arises the question of ecological sustainability. As corporations develop they utilize the natural resources of the nation and create an environment that is under stress. "This stress may lead to ecological disaster, which is why ecologists and environmentalists are questioning the method of development. They have given rise to the term 'sustainability' which can be generally defined as the ability of the environment to 'sustain' the development-taking place. These environmentalists suggest that in order to create organizations that are environment friendly they must make use of the concept of strategic sustainability.The word strategic has become one of inherent importance as managers try to succeed in a competitive and specialized business field. They have realized that in order to progress they must implement their policies in a well-researched manner, which is, 'strategic'. Thus, when we use the term 'strategic sustainability' we refer to the managements ability to apply environment friendly policies that aim for a long-term goal."
