This paper examines the changes wrought by the Chinese Communist Party when it took over in October 1949, establishing the People's Republic of China. This led to major changes throughout Chinese society, particularly in light of family roles. According to the paper, the family had always been the foundation of culture in Chinese society, with the family unit at the centre of society.
