The purpose of this paper is to explore the extent to which education can help single mothers through the various challenges and difficulties they face. The first section of the paper discusses societal attitudes toward single mothers and the effects of these attitudes on single mothers' educational progress. The second section discusses the basic and general help education can and does provide to single mothers. The difficulties associated with getting an education and taking care of a family are examined in the third section of the paper. The final two sections examine both the advantages and disadvantages of motherhood in relation to education and the opportunities that are afforded to educated single mothers.
