This paper discusses how the Tenerife Opera House is famous in Spain for its uniqueness and deviation from the modernist style of the 20th century and how the structure is elegant and incorporates both art and design in its finishing technique. The paper also looks at the contraversy surrounding architect Santiago Calatrava's new wave of design which brought change to the modernist style.
From the Paper:"The Tenerife Opera House is a multipurpose center used for performing different forms of art and other entertainments events such as theater, dance, and the famous Spanish operetta. The building was the first remarkable piece of work for perfuming drama and arts pioneered by Santiago Calatrava. The building took roughly six years to construct and was officially opened in September, 2003. Since then the facility has been one of the greatest auditoriums used for different festivals and music events in the country (Sharp 67). As well, the building has become a major monumental landmark in Spain. In terms of structure, the auditorium is predominantly constructed using reinforced concrete and supported using metal pieces. It sits on approximately 5.7 acre pieces of land which is adjacent to the ocean. The structure covers 73,000 sq. feet with the rest of the land occupied by administration building and several plazas used for public functions and parking."
