The paper discusses how in 1971, Canada introduced a new concept referred to as "official multiculturalism", although not officially passed until 1985, the "Act for the Preservation and Enhancement of Multiculturalism in Canada" demanded the promotion and understanding that multiculturalism reflects the racial and cultural diversity of Canadian society and consequently recognizes the freedom of all members of society to preserve, enhance and share cultural heritage.
