This paper considers both side in the debate over whether or not to legalize prostition and then deicdes that it should be legalized. The paper begins by citing some of the reasons that the legalization of prostituion is opposed and then follows with several cogent reasons why prostitution should be legalized. In addition, the paper also discusses and organization called COYOTE (Call Off Your Old Tired Ethics), which is dedicated to redefining prostitution as a social problem and removing it from the arenas of sin and crime. After thorough examination of the issue, the paper finds that the position that prostitution should be legalized is stronger than the position that it should remain illegal.
From the Paper:"Prostitution should be legalized for several reasons, including the increased control society could exercise over prostitution through taxation, medical inspections, and similar actions that cannot be taken now because prostitution is underground. The fact that prostitution is illegal creates more crime rather than less, preventing necessary controls from being implemented and creating a situation where there is greater danger to the public. The experience in Nevada is instructive, for legal prostitution there has brought revenue to the state, protected women from exploitation by pimps, and reduced the transmission of sexually transmitted diseases through medical inspections and certification."
