The paper explores the use of public-private partnerships instead of contracting out as a method of privatizatizing the transportation infrastructer in the US. The paper explains what public-private partnerships are and identifies the key differences between the government setting up contracts to build the transportation infrastructure, and the public-private partnerships with greater private sector participation. The paper also considers the problems related to the more advantageous aspects of public-private partnerships and looks at the successful factors involved in the structuring of public-private partnerships. The paper concludes by emphasizing how the economic stability of our country depends on a good working transportation system.

From the Paper:

"In 2006, some of America's largest retailers visited the Office of the Secretary of Transportation to complain that the highways and the transportation infrastructure needed to be fixed. Their concerns were that the transportation infrastructure was making it difficult for them to meet delivery deadlines. They argued that delivery deadlines were easily met when good transportation infrastructure provides trucks the available means to transport three-quarters of the nation's goods."
