"No matter how effective a change process is managed, there will always be challenges with communication. Our cultures often influence how we approach problems, and how we participate in communities and groups. DuPraw and Axner also identify several reasons for communication challenges in the workplace. Different communication styles can create confusion and discontent. These can be issues such as language difference and go as far as non-verbal communication such as facial gestures and hand motions. A variety of attitudes towards conflict is another contributor to challenges associated with communication. Because face to face meetings are said to create less of a chance for misunderstanding and therefore lower instances of conflict, it is the recommended method of communication for large scale change processes.
"Aside from the challenges that arise from just the communication of the change itself and the objectives for meeting the goals associated with changes, another areas prone to challenges is team communication. Once the strategy and vision have been communicated effectively to the stakeholders, internal communication begins to rise. The first steps to overcoming these communication challenges is to better understand that barriers that are causing the issues and find solutions that allow the team to work through those barriers."
