This paper explains the traditional definition of marketing as well as the new definition and techniques that are available to companies who wish to utilize these new methods and practices. This author discusses how marketing and marketing plans have undergone an evolution over the years, which may be due to the the new media techniques that are available in today's marketplace. With the incorporation of the Internet and other digital devices into consumers hands there is a need for new tactics and methods for getting the attention of those who are willing to buy new products and services.

From the Paper:

"There are many factors that have called for a redefinition of traditional marketing terms. The most important would be the placement of traditional ads. As an example, with the use of DVR(digital video recorders) being commonplace in the everyday home the consumers have the ability to make themselves immune to the traditional television commercial. This combined with Satellite radio and web news sources provides an environment that is virtually advertisement free. This evolutionary trend calls for the development of new tactics in getting advertisement to the consumer as well as new methods in the deployment of such ads. Some of these nontraditional methods might include; spam, web-casting, tweets, web only promotions, and pop-up ads. These types of e-advertisements are both low cost and effective, creating a new advertisement environment that both user specific and interest orientated."
