Description:

This paper looks at the changes that must be implemented by a company when changing levels of management. The paper discusses the stages of unfreezing, change and refreezing, and explores the perspectives of employees on change. The paper also looks at contemporary theories on organizational change.

From the Paper:

"There are very few factors in the business world which will remain stable. Change has always been an influential factor on organisations, and the ability of the organisation to adapt and embrace these changes has often determined the companies that will thrive and those that will fail. The pressure is greater now than at ever before due to the rapid rate of change and the increasing dynamic environment. Consequently, organizations need not only change, but to control and manage the transformation so that the outcome is successful (Dervitsiotis, 1998).
"The number of failures in where organisational change are concerned indicate that this is an issue which is not yet comprehended in its totality, rather that it is a fashion which is subject to environment forces which are not managed to the potential of the company by those instigating the change.
"The need for change has long been recognised with many models created to illustrate the influences which cause this. Models such as Porters Five forces, PEST (political, economic, social and technological) and SWOT (Strengths weaknesses opportunities and threats) all can help identify the actual influences and the way in which these may determine what changes are necessary.
"The change which an organisation will undergo has to start at a singular point. This may be planned or may be an emergent strategy, however which ever it is it will require managing. This process Lewin observed occurring in three stages where it is successful, these are unfreezing, change and refreezing (Lewin, 1951).
