The paper looks at the leadership tool of 'Management by Values' or 'MBV', its three specific purposes, and how it can be utilized in the redesign of corporate cultures. The paper shows how such methods of managing change that are less destructive or disruptive such as MBV will likely serve an organization effectively.

"Many theories exist by which to explain change within the organization. For example, the work of Eric Abrahamson (2004) entitled: "Managing Change in a World of Excessive Change: Counterbalancing Creative Destruction and Creative Recombination" states that those who advocate for "revolutionary change" support change that effectively "destroys, in one short burst, all the past structures of an organization. The stated goal is to create organizations afresh, freed from the cold grip of the past." (Abrahamson, 2004) Those who support 'evolutionary change' are stated by Abrahamson to prefer "...a kinder, gentler form of creative destruction, a slower, more gradual, series of smaller changes that incrementally destroy existing practices and replace them, progressively, with newly created ones." (2004) Finally, Abrahamson states that still others state recommendations for each of these, evolutionary and revolutionary change alternating between the two and in which "...paradigm-busting bursts of revolutionary creative destruction are followed by periods of evolutionary adjustments, which way to another revolutionary outburst." (Abrahamson, 2004)"
