Description:
The paper discusses how both women and men worked prior to 1919 in Canada, but systemic sexism ensured that women did not benefit as much as men did from the advent of industrialism which began around the middle of the 19th century. The paper also argues that the advent of the First World War facilitated the entry of more women into the labour force, but it did not foster any kind of feminist consciousness.
