Description:

The paper posits that as an industry, consumer product companies will have to agree that selling individually packaged items is not sustainable, and find new ways of distributing products to the consumer without overusing plastics. The paper believes that in order to do this, these companies will have to work together with consumers to understand the best ways to develop new products and break the mold of purchasing and re-purchasing everyday goods.

From the Paper:

"There has been a massive change in direction for industrial development over the last decade, which Smith (1999) describes in detail. Instead of concentrating on producing goods as quickly or as inexpensively as possible, many industries have explored a methodology for development that integrates an ecological focus. This can involve cutting back on production materials, decreasing or reallocating energy, utilizing waste in a beneficial way, and developing connections between different companies to ensure that production functions are optimized from an ecological standpoint."
