The paper reveals that more than any other group in Canada, it is Aboriginal people who demonstrate the complex interaction of the social determinants of health, and it is also in Aboriginal communities that health promotion becomes the greatest challenge of all. The paper explains that the very poor health status of these people is determined by such factors as lack of education, poor housing, unemployment, poor diet, lack of sanitation, and poor personal health practices and coping skills (Laverack, 2004).
