Description:

This paper discusses Classic Greek art, architecture, literature, and sculpture and how they all reflected the high regard of the ancient Greeks for individualism, rationalism, and humanism. The paper also notes that the Greeks of ancient times lived in a world they perceived to be filled with divine and semi-divine beings.

From the Paper:

"The ancient Greeks believed that individuals should be free as long as they acted within the laws of Greece, which allowed them the opportunity to excel in any direction they chose. Individuality was the basis of Greek society. The ability to strive for excellence, no matter what the challenge, was highly cherished. This striving for excellence was the foundation and inspiration for the phenomenal accomplishments of Greek artists, writers, and sculptors, which have been admired throughout all of human history down to the present day.
"Classic Greek art, architecture, literature, and sculpture all reflected the high regard of the ancient Greeks for individualism, rationalism, and humanism. Greek artists primarily represented living beings in their works, and concerned themselves both with formal proportion and with the dynamics of action and emotion. The most common subject matter was the human figure, which was also the form of the divine; monsters, animals, and plants were secondary. The chief themes were from myth, literature, and daily life.
