Description:

This paper is a response to two questions, one dealing with the impact of individuals on history, the other dealing with the impact of civilizations. It considers four individuals, Constantine, Alexander the Great, his father Philip of Macedon, and Julius Caesar. The paper also considers China, Japan, Greece, and Rome in assessing civilizations versus modern life.

From the Paper:

"The lives of Philip of Macedon, Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar, and the Emperor Constantine all show that great men shape history. Merely the convergence of events into which they were place could not have produced the historical results that they wrought without their genius. The lives of these four men illustrate the role of great individuals in history. Lesser individuals in like circumstances would have made very little impact on the world, while these remarkable men shape their world and ours."
