The writer discusses the expected outcomes and the week by week objectives for a nursing course called "Influencing the Future of Nursing and Healthcare", and then describes the clear relationship between the outcomes and the stated objectives. The writer relates the theories that served as a foundation for this course and asserts that at the end of the course, students had a firm understanding of the profession they were getting into as well as the challenges before them and ways to contribute in order to make the nursing profession not only better for them, but also for future nursing. The writer posits that this course was a good example of the changing landscape of nursing education and the nursing profession overall.

From the Paper:

"The expected outcomes of the course were identified early on. For each of the six weeks of the course, there were objectives to be learned. Week one was devoted to the challenges nurses face giving the nursing shortage and how to fill the gap as well as certain factors that are currently influencing the health care environment and opportunities for advancement in the field. During the second week the objectives were to identify stakeholders in healthcare policy development and to review regulatory agencies. We also learned about strategies to deal with the nursing shortage. The third week's objectives were to learn about the impact of politics in health care and nursing. During the fourth week we discussed nursing and policies in the local community. Week five dealt with cultural diversity and globalization and the sixth and final week dealt with the changing roles for nurses.
"The target population for this course included all nurses. These nurses were from a multigenerational workforce with different schedules and personal responsibilities. The learning outcomes were specific to this population because of the many titles and responsibilities that fall under the nursing umbrella. The titles under the advanced nurse practitioner umbrella are: nurse practitioner, nurse anesthetist, certified nurse midwives and clinical nurse specialist. With each of these titles come different areas of expertise which gives the advanced practice nurse a wide range that is applicable to the course outcomes."
