This paper explores how environmental management can contribute to organizational efficiency and how the public sector must intervene to maintain standardization. The paper shows how environmental management has become the norm but is still resisted by many business entities, therefore, the public sector has to intervene and make sure they adopt ethical measures for the interest and benefit of society.
From the Paper:"The current business scenario is filled with the imperative mandate that organizations should participate in green management, where they demonstrate social consciousness efforts and social responsibilities. This trend stems from a trend predominant during the 1980s and 1990s. Although the proactive approach to organizational and environmental management has been in existence a decade ago but today it is no longer a trend. In fact it has become a necessary tool for corporate operation as well as the way they run the business in their respective industries. In this regard one must also note that businesses are no longer considered as separate entities from the society. In fact they are considered as part of the community and like all other members of community they too need to contribute to the welfare of the society. Had this mandate been limited to this mandate then it would not have been such a problem. Instead today one sees boycotts, strikes and lockouts carried out in the name of environmental management. For this reason, corporations are finding it imperative to focus their strategies to encompass environmental management strategies to avoid such pitfalls [Shrivastava, 1995]."
