The paper looks at how the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) promotes and protects the health and well being of all Americans. The paper discusses the HHS' six goals designed to enable the Department to fulfill its mission and outlines several of the programs the Department runs.
From the Paper:"The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) promotes and protects the health and well being of all Americans through a set of programs in basic and applied science, public health, income support, child development, and the financing and regulation of health and social services. The Department manages these activities in association with its state, local, tribal, and non governmental partners and through the coordinating activities of the staff agencies in the Office of the Secretary. The HHS published its first strategic plan in 1997 in response to the Government Performance and Results Act (GPRA). The Department has successfully implemented the remaining GPRA requirements, and it is now working to improve the quality of its GPRA submissions. In part, this has focused on updating the HHS Strategic Plan to reflect new priorities and the experience that gained while implementing the initial plan. This has led to an expansion and restatement of some of the goals and objectives of the Strategic Plan ("HHS Strategic Plan FY 2001 2006," 2000)."
