The paper explains the basic principles of crisis intervention and compares it to pastoral crisis intervention. The paper explores why some oppose ministerial intervention and what Biblical justification there is for crisis intervention. The paper concludes that it would be neglectful of a pastor to not try and alleviate the suffering of his flock and that ministerial and psychoanalytic models could indeed work together.

From the Paper:

"Crisis intervention is an important psychological practice, usually involving a "Brief duration, and their focus on improving acute psychological disturbances rather an curing long-standing mental disorders (Moore, T (2001) "Crisis Intervention" in The Encyclopedia of Psychology Gale Group.) Crisis intervention, then, is usually of short duration, and tends to lead onto medical and psychiatric participation. One sort of intervention which does not involve this kind of participation is crisis intervention in disasters, accidents, or involving the victims of violence."
