Description:

This paper discusses how every individual hails from a society or social group whose norms determine the person's dress code for social functions, and this may be perceived as a barrier to an individual's creativity in his/her wardrobe. The paper also addresses how organizational communication structures regulate all aspects of communication within an organization, and how society also has rules and regulations to govern communication and interactions. The paper concludes that one should not always uphold these constraints in employing creativity, since creativity is achieved by balancing constraints and disregard for the impossible and it brings about radical changes.

From the Paper:

"CommGAP, (nd) in Eisenberg & Trethewey, (2007) postulates that the definition of organizational communication as striking a balance between creativity and constraint lays down a focus on how an individual can use communication to work out the apprehension between working with the constraints of pre existing organizational structures and promoting change and creativity, p.1. Various organizations have varied organizational cultures. CommGAP, (nd) defines organizational culture as the values, rituals, ideology and knowledge that individuals within an organization share. The leaders are always concerned with creating a common organizational culture that emphasizes a high ethical performance. It is this culture that constrains individuals working within an organization from applying their own cultures, dressing and communication, in various organizational contexts.
"Whenever one is dressing for various organizational occasions, a certain code ought to be adhered to, (Martin, 2009). This is because of the organizational culture, that every organization has an established dress code for various organizational and social events. Here the force of 'Balancing Creativity and Constraint' comes into play; with the individual facing restrictions of an established dress code and his/her preferred way of dressing."
