This paper explains different security software known as authentication software. The paper discusses PrivateCard Cylink (PCC) that uses digital persona fingerprint recognition technology, SafeWord Premier Access (SPA) and Symark PowerPassword. The paper concludes that Safeword's Premier Access seems to be the best of all three types of software.

PrivateCard Cylink
Password Manager

From the Paper:

"PrivateCard Cylink (PCC) uses Digital Persona fingerprint recognition Technology. This technology combines fingerprint technology with smart cards thus rendering passwords obsolete. This means that users will not have to remember passwords (nor write them down) or PIN codes to unlock cards. The added user convenience also leads to better security. The major advancement lies in the fact that a part of the fingerprint matching required to unlock the card takes place on the smart card itself and not on any host computer. PRIVATECARD CYLINK uses an on-board microprocessor and control program to protect the user's sensitive information. The user's digital signature, public-private key pair are produced on the card, which also performs all signing and decryption operations. The user's private key, therefore, never leaves PRIVATECARD CYLINK. The new smart card will provide an added layer of protection for secure logon to a network, remote user authentication, and for accessing private keys for digital signatures."
