This letter is a proposal to do research on the human rights record of Yahoo, the Internet company. Its cooperation with secret Chinese and American surveillance of Internet customers is criticized, and the scope of the proposed research is outlined.
From the Paper:"The topic of my proposed research is the impact of Yahoo's corporate practices on human rights. While the advent of web portals has immeasurably enhanced the ability of people to have free access to previously unheard-of amounts of information, Internet companies such as Yahoo have also paradoxically displayed a disturbing tendency to cooperate with repressive governmental policies restricting free access to information and invading privacy, both at home and abroad. The specific focus of my proposed research is on Yahoo's cooperation with governmental censorship and the secret surveillance..."
