From the Paper:

"The work of Foster and Mathews (2005) entitled: "Handbook to Life in the Ancient Maya World" describes urban construction projects undertaken by the Mayans and toward this end describes San Lorenzo Tenochtitlan, the largest Mesoamericans city during the Early Preclassic Period which covers an area "of almost 7 kilometers" or three square miles. This city was the first great capital of the Olmec civilization. It is stated that "construction of such a large urban center required enormous resources and unprecedented organization of labor." (Foster and Mathews, 2005, p.24)"
