From the Paper:

"The problem of the loss of employee morale and productivity on the job has been of increasing concern in recent years. There are some tools available to help companies cope with these changes though, including designing work space with productivity in mind, providing cross-training opportunities through job rotation, increasing the number and type of tasks for workers (termed "job enlargement") and the expansion of self-management responsibilities for workers (termed "job enrichment"). All of these efforts are actually focused on developing improved methods of communicating goals, accomplishing tasks, and providing feedback from the people who are doing the work. Progressive industrial organizations strive to improve these aspects of the workplace in many ways, such as by using job rotation and educational programs to diversify employees' experience and to acquaint them with various aspects of the manufacturing process. This can provide each employee with a concept of the "big picture" in which the company competes as well as the importance of each employee's specific function within that task. "
