Description:
This paper discusses how transgendered or transsexual individuals are accepted into society and explains how the social constructionist perspective on gender is relative to transgender acceptance. The paper looks at the history of transgenderism and its path from "sexual deviation" to a condition that can be remedied by surgery. Finally, the paper shares life experiences from people who are transgendered and/or transsexuals.
From the Paper:
"America is not really the free country of equal rights that many think it is. There is still an immense amount of discrimination towards anyone that does not fit into the traditional gender stereotypes. Over time the view of gender has been changing due to the Gender Revolution but this is a very slow process and progress is almost unnoticeable in some regions. Past generations have seen transgendered individuals and transsexuals as "sexual deviants" but the younger generations tends to be a bit more open to diversity. Only when we stop linking gender categories to biological sex will discrimination and inequality based on gender stop."Sample of Sources Used:
