Description:
This paper addresses challenges for social studies teachers. The essay addresses the challenges that teaching world issues creates for teachers; identifies popular issues and their relevance to the current social/political environment in the United States, using Roe versus Wade as an example.
From the Paper:
"In the social studies classroom, the challenge of world issues needs to be addressed on a daily basis. The social studies educator has the duty to their students to help develop and work within a comprehensive curriculum that allows them to communicate critical information to the students in a timely and efficient process. Yet while the social studies teacher who dabbles with early American history can follow a well-established framework in which the most significant events are recorded, the social studies teacher working with more recent events needs to continuously revisit the events occurring in the world and attempt to contextualize them in the classroom curriculum. The increasing communications and economic globalization of the social environment stresses that there is a greater emphasis on connectivity than ever before."Cite this Research Paper:
