"Family is important in Nigeria and this includes extended families. Family relationships in Nigeria are characterized by hierarchy and seniority and one achieves recognition and social standard through extended families. The society of Nigeria is hierarchical and the age and position of the individual is the basis for respect. The oldest individual in a group is revered and attributed as possessing wisdom and these individuals are greeted first and when dining are the first to be served.
