This paper examines breast cancer and and considers the different causes for this condition. It then describes different forms of prevention such as diet and activity as well as known forms of treatment such as systemic therapy and chemotherapy . In particular, the paper contends that prevention of cancer is the most recommended form of treatment and that, if discovered early, cancer can then be treated with success. The paper further discusses how prevention can only be achieved through increased breast cancer awareness worldwide.

Effects of Activity/Exercise in Prevention or Cause

From the Paper:

"Systemic therapy involves introducing drugs into the bloodstream thereby destroying or controlling cancer throughout the body. Systemic therapy consists of either hormone therapy, chemotherapy or targeted therapy. Surgery is of two forms which depend on the extent of the cancer. Breast-sparing/breast-conserving surgery removes the cancer only through either lumpectomy or a segmental/partial mastectomy. A mastectomy on the other hand removes as much breast tissue or the entire breast. The surgeon also removes one or more lymph nodes from under the arm to facilitate checking for cancer cells, if found on the lymph nodes, other cancer treatments will be required. Simple mastectomy involves removal of entire breast and some lymph nodes under the arm. Radical mastectomy involves removal of the whole breast, most, if not all of the lymph nodes, the lining over the chest muscles and small chest muscle for ease of removal of lymph nodes (Haskell and Berek 468)."
