From the Paper:

"Downsizing in organizations, or otherwise known as restructuring, reorganizing, as well as many other descriptions being applied, has been pervasive in the United States over the past two decades. All too often, the initiative of downsizing by the organization is poorly planned and the process is haphazardly approached with little regard for employees, either those who will be displaced or those who will remain. Each of these employees faces difficulties and challenges which the organization should attempt to address and as well should attempt to make a provision toward assistance of the employee. Failure to do so results in the organization obtaining a bad public image as well as having employees on-the-job who have developed a distrust for the organization and who are likely to experience depression and anxiety among a plethora of other emotions directly linked to the downsizing process."
