"Communication is one of the most important factors in gaining employees trust. It is especially significant in attaining trust in management decisions and organizational change. Important information regarding an employee's job and organization is delivered through internal communication. Management can communicate with employees through electronic, F-T-F, or print channels. Brochures, posters, memos, and reports are included in the available print channels. Email, voicemail, video conferencing, and instant message systems are examples of electronic communication channels. F-T-F or face to face channels include classic communication methods such as speeches, social events, gatherings, and meetings. (Kramer) It is crucial for leaders to be visible for effective communication. The leader must also choose the right style of communication so that communication is inviting, ongoing, and a feeling of transparency is evoked. Employees will feel more compelled to convey their thoughts and recommendations while simultaneously developing a feeling of trust. (Dirks and Ferrin) The benefits of communication are measurable. Disloyal employees cost companies around $50 billion each year, due to absenteeism, defects, reduced productivity, reworks, and repair costs. (Kramer) Performance can increase 20 to 50 percent by communicating adequate, quality, and timely information to employees. (Mayer, Davis, and Schooman) Studies also suggest that communication influences an employee's decision to leave or remain with a company.
"The decision making process in an organization is vital. This could directly result in organizational change. Communicating with employees during the process will increase trust. Once the process is finished and the management decision is made employee approval will already be established. Nevertheless, some management decisions are the sole product of management."
