The paper provides an analysis of the literature to determine the various perspectives on the accession of China to the World Trade Organization (WTO). The paper then offers suggestions with respect to policy recommendations that will allow both China and related states to manage the accession of China to the WTO to the mutual advantage of all parties.

Literature Review
Conclusions and Policy Recommendations

From the Paper:

"It must be acknowledged that the existing body of literature on the accession of China to the WTO is so vast that the material addressed in the limited space of this essay only "scratches the surface". However, the literature selected represents an attempt to reflect the key issues under debate with regard to China's accession, as well as the impact this accession will have upon the formation of government policy in China particularly but, also, in the West.
"Kui-Wai Li's article, "The Changing Economic Environment in the People's Republic of China," is useful in presenting a policy background to the Chinese accession to the WTO. While the article presents considerable information upon the Chinese economy and Chinese trade relations from the 1970s to the late 1990s, this is done in the context of governmental policy initiatives. Thus, readers can understand how closely the Chinese economy, and particularly the Chinese accession into the WTO, is connected to specific economic reform policies of the Chinese leadership."
