The following paper will examine the historical and intellectual antecedents which made it possible for Bandura's Social Cognitive Theory to burst into prominence in the early 1960s. The paper will also examine some of the main features of Bandura's work and conclude briefly with a review of what his lasting legacy is not only to indebted scholars and students in the field of psychology but also to people who have only a passing interest in the field at best. In the final analysis, whatever the limitations of his work, Bandura has at least offered a capacious and inclusive view of human behavior that offers a multitude of opportunities for further study.
