"In general there is no uniform model for democracy because there is no uniform group in society who could form the public group that is central to democracy. An effective democratic system is one that reflects the unique needs of the people and their cultures in a given country. When citizens participate and help the government to maintain accountability, transparency and promoting respect for human rights they formulate a citizenry. In a democratic society informed citizenry is important because the country needs to accommodate the needs of the people and the people need to accommodate a political system that serves their needs [Africa News Service, 08-26-1998]. This can only be achieved if the public is aware and knowledgeable of the democratic system prevalent in the country. An informed citizenry therefore helps the government to develop policies, procedures, and political a system to support democratic values. Similarly, a well-informed citizenry will also serve the interest of the individual within a society."
