Description:

The paper relates that prostitution is often referred to as the world's oldest profession. The paper posits that sadly, it is not so much a profession as a job of last resort for marginalized, poor women; the average age of entry into this kind of work is just 14. The paper argues that it needs to be recognized that these women are workers like everyone else, and should enjoy the same rights and protections. Most importantly, they must not be further victimized by punitive legislation. The paper contends that this industry will not go away, and therefore we should stop wasting tax dollars on trying to force it to go away; instead, we should take steps to make life easier for these sex workers.
