This paper offers a definition of body modifications and discusses their purposes and forms. The paper considers how body modifications affect the workplace and describes how modifications cause discrimination. The paper then looks at arguments on how body modifications do not affect the workplace, and contends that these modifications cause unnecessary discrimination and should not be perceived as negative in any way.

"Our nation experiences several phenomenons of popularity. These occur quite often. They are also repeated often. Despite this, the acceptance of certain phenomena is still identified in a negative manner. Body modifications provide an exemplification of this. Certain modifications are relatively new. Others have been in existence for several years. Nevertheless, they are still a topic of discussion and argument. This is especially true regarding body modifications in the workplace. Body modifications have a unique impact on the work environment.
"In order to fully understand the topic a definition for body modifications must be rendered. The term may also be identified as body mutilation or body altercation. According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, body modification may be defined as "any method of permanently adorning the body, including tattooing and piercing." (Merriam-Webster) After researching various definitions a unique definition may be rendered. Body modification includes the voluntary changing of the human anatomy. The purpose of the altercation may differ based on the individual."
