Description:
This paper examines the over-arching phenomenon which impacts society in order to explain the experiences of Black Christians in a society that, for all its many successes, is still struggling to come to grips with an ugly past of racial segregation and hatred. The paper discusses how the white power structure before the mid-point of the last century created an environment wherein every conceivable institution was enlisted in convincing African-Americans that being a "good Christian" also meant, unfortunately, being a subservient Christian.
