Description:

This paper discusses whether teachers receive enough education on how to teach English language learners and how this affects English language learners. The paper explains that the relationship between teachers training and effective instruction of English language learners in the United States and Canada show that teachers are not prepared to adequately teach English language learners. The paper argues that teachers need more pre-service and in-service training to prepare teachers to teach English language learners.

From the Paper:

"A survey by the National Center for education of approximately 3 million public school teachers, "41% report teaching limited English proficient students, while only 12.5 have received eight or more hours of training" (Drucker, 2003, para 1). Teachers are not prepared to deliver an effective education to English language learners nor do new teachers receive enough education to prepare them to teach English Language learners. The relationship between teachers training and effective instruction of English Language Learners in the United States and Canada show that teachers are not prepared to adequately teach English Language Learners."
