"After the event with Arthur, I can now answer most of my questions since I have had a 'meaningful moment' and my perception has changed dramatically. Of course, I should primarily understand the client's functional level and capabilities because I cannot simply ask the mentally disabled client to sing along or do lyric discussion. However, the therapist can know what interests the client may have by experimenting with different musical experiences. It may take longer time than expect, but it is worthy enough to take time and take the journey together with the client just like we all do with our lives. As for Dena, she has not even seen Arthur holding something with his hands during the entire session with her. And how would I have known that Arthur might like to play the cymbals? Nevertheless, I had some sense that I should provide some interesting e sound so that he might get interested with it. I was not afraid when he held the cymbals, shook, and even tried to flip them over, not because of safety issue, but because of I had to interpret how he may experience the world by touching and looking."Cite this Narrative Essay:
