The paper argues that low income should not be the determining factor in receiving a college education when the student desires to progress through school. The paper further argues that since one of the goals of high schools in the public education system is to prepare students for life following high school, part of that preparation should be for the student to understand the processes associated with entering higher education. The paper is certain that when teachers and schools can offer this knowledge to students, then they are providing tools that will assist students toward success long after high school comes to an end. The paper contends that creating college transition programs in the public schools are part of the ethical obligation of teachers to their students.
