This paper describes and analyzes how the film "Doctor Zhivago" reveals the personal and social complexities in implicit in revolution. David Lean's meticulous panoramic reconstruction of revolutionary Russia in the early 20th century is beautiful to look at, and many of the characters in this two hundred minute film are only loosely connected but serve to provide a larger view of this tumultuous revamp of a people's way of life. In particular, the paper shows how the love story between Yuri Zhivago and Lara Antipova gives the story a personal element that is nonetheless infected on all sides by a new and turbulent ideology of the times.
