Description:

The following paper will look at the struggling US economy and will outline why the economy is slowing down, what the government has done to address the issue (and whether this has been enough) and what the outlook appears to be. Specifically, the paper will begin by looking at how food and energy prices are being pushed upward by higher gas prices; the next order of business will be to look at what the rising gas prices meant for retailers - especially discount retailers - and for manufacturers. Following that, time will be devoted to exploring how the housing and credit markets have been buffeted recently - though these symptoms of economic malaise may have more to do with poor lending decisions than with anything else. In any case, having discussed what is unfolding in America, time will be devoted to criticizing the government for its slowness on heading off the problem and for its unwillingness to wean America off of its huge dependence upon gas produced in the unfriendly Middle East. Finally, the paper will finish by exploring the most likely prognosis for the immediate future. When all is said and done, the government stumbled off the mark, but has made some strong gains since - although the basic problem, an over-reliance on somebody else's gas - remains.
