It loos at the precursor of this bungalow was the California bungalow, which achieved massive popularity a few decades earlier - even to the point that there were mail order bungalows available.

Much as the townhouse now offers affordable, space-efficient housing, the bungalow also espoused these values in the form of a detached dwelling.
