Urban waste is treated significantly differently among industrialised and developing countries. Treatment of municipal waste in Canada, with the emphasis on Toronto, is compared to cities in developing countries. It is concluded that urban waste in industrialised countries is a consequence of excess consumption. In developing countries, it is a consequence of underdeveloped infrastructure for collection and disposal.
