At the current time in the United States health care is primarily delivered through hospital systems that are the result of hospital mergers and associated physicians and clinics. These hospital conglomerates developed during globalization as a means of ensuring that the health care system in the United States could remain competitive with other nations. However, at the current time the World Health Organization has concluded that health care in the U.S. is ranked 37th out of 191 countries and that services are often substandard for American patients ("World", 2008).
